AllCare’s Dr. Kathrine Tan Shares Her Journey from the CDC to Family Medicine on “The Weekly Check-Up” Radio Show

AllCare physician Dr. Kathrine Tan recently joined Dr. Bruce Feinberg on “The Weekly Check-Up,” the weekly one-hour healthcare talk show airing on 95.5 WSB Atlanta’s News & Talk. The two physicians explored the topics of preventive care and healthy living, as well as Dr. Tan’s unique path from the Centers for Disease Control andPrevention (CDC) to caring for patients at AllCare.

During the show, Dr. Tan reflected on the personal experiences that first inspired her to pursue medicine. After immigrating from the Philippines as a child, she became her family’s unofficial translator when her father underwent triple bypass surgery in his early 40s.Helping her family understand complex medical information—and seeing first hand how healthier nutrition and exercise transformed her father’s life—sparked a lifelong passion for making healthcare more understandable and accessible.

That passion led Dr. Tan to spend more than 20 years at the CDC, where she worked in epidemiology, infectious diseases, global public health, and clinical consultation. She discussed serving as an EpidemicIntelligence Service Officer, supporting physicians across the country throughCDC consultation services, and helping clinicians navigate everything from malaria and Ebola to influenza and emerging infectious diseases.

After two decades in public health, Dr. Tan realized she missed the direct relationships that come from caring for patients. She shared that returning to clinical medicine felt like “coming home,” and that AllCare’s unique model of accessible primary and immediate care made it the perfect place to begin this new chapter of her career. In fact, she told listeners AllCare was the only practice she applied to because of its commitment to making high-quality primary care readily available without the long wait times many patients experience today.

A major focus of the discussion centered onDr. Tan’s commitment to lifestyle medicine–an approach to healthcare that emphasizes preventing and managing disease through healthy daily habits like good nutrition, regular physical activity and exercise, stress management, and avoiding harmful substances.

Dr. Tan emphasized helping her patients make realistic, sustainable improvements that fit their lives. Whether it’s replacing chips with nuts, taking short walks, or improving sleep habits, she believes that lasting progress comes from small, consistent steps—not quick fixes.

Dr. Tan and Dr. Feinberg also explored the importance of continuity in primary care. Dr. Tan shared how rewarding it has been to see patients return to AllCare for follow-up visits and build long-term relationships that help improve not only immediate health concerns but overall quality of life.
